Attracting the likes of VOGUE editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is no easy task. The buzz surrounding the Singapore-born Nepalese Prabal Gurung was huge; having studied at Parsons and was a behind-the-scenes power at Bill Blass before starting his line a year ago. With models walking boldly down the runway for his catwalk debut, the tweets and the looks of awe demonstrated the success of his show – heck, you could see Anna Wintour’s mouth smile in delight and her take off her sunglasses towards the end to better view the glimmer of his dresses.
Playing with a palette of light browns, rich greens and reds, contrasting blacks and whites, Gurung was sure not to bore his audiences and amped the level of design with various applications of positive and negative space. With hair high and slicked, models walked down in his designs confidently and the appearance of enjoying the limelight with Gurung.
And with the many designs that we are seeing this season featuring fur, we are noticing that this trend is coming back strong. The beautiful silhouettes and Wintour’s interest will make sure that this will not be the last of Gurung on the runway. Other notable guests included Wintour’s daughter Bee Shaffer and Avatar star Zoe Saldana.
