Phreshly Squeezed

Remember when I was talking about how excited I was to watch “The September Issue?” Well, that excitement was overcome by my busy schedule and those of my friends’. I did finally get around to watching the documentary last weekend, and I must say, that it was well worth the wait.

Described as a documentary that manages to capture the making of the September 2007 issue, director RJ Cutler weaved in the elements of a story into the film. In doing so, Cutler was not only able to appeal to my documentary loving self, but also to a wider demographic. Keep in mind, though, that the film was not overtaken by story – the documentary blended quite well with the coverage of the story.

You’d think from the preview that the film concentrated on only VOGUE and the famed editor Anna Wintour, but really, a lot more was covered. The working environment was shown well with light shed on other important persons at VOGUE, such as Grace Coddington and André Leon Talley. Aside from showing off their personalities and histories, Cutler went on to balance the highs and the lows in producing such an important issue.

Of course, you might just find some parts of the fashion world to be downright ridiculous, such as this clip from the documentary:
