“We’re All Mad Here” for 2010′s Release of “Alice in Wonderland”

The Cheshire cat certainly has it right: everyone is greatly anticipating Tim Burton’s 2010 rendition of “Alice in Wonderland.” Based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass with illustrations by John Teniel, Walt Disney released the two stories as one in 1951 as a feature-length animated movie. The movie was met with a lukewarm box office response and criticized for its “Americanization.” However, several years later, it became the studio’s most requested 16mm film rental for both colleges and individuals, which led to its re-release in 1974.
Fast forward to 2007 where “Alice in Wonderland’s” script was being written and where award-winning Tim Burton signed on with Walt Disney to direct the film. The fantastic cast is set to include Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, Helena Bonham Carter (recall Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride?) as the Red Queen, Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar, and Australian sweetheart Mia Wasikowska as Alice.

I was excited about Tim Burton doing Alice in Wonderland, until I remembered Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
I love Burton, I love Depp, and I LOVE Helen Bonham-Carter.
But I feel like I see them in every movie together, all the time. They’ve developed sort of a closed, 3 muskateer style in movies that Im getting really bored of. Not to mention I think Tim Burton uses the exact same manipulation process on every movie – the same colors, the same theme music, the same “I’m dark and twisted” theme to everything. I know Burton is dark and twisted, but why isn’t he creative anymore?

I don’t think I’ve seen Burton’s remake of Charlie, but you are right about the same colors/themes/music though. I guess we’ll have to wait to see how this one turns out; really hoping that it doesn’t disappoint.
