Canada More Fashionable than Europe, eh?
by Barb on August 5, 2009
Thought I might get your attention with that title. I’ve noticed something while living here: Canada does upstage France on one aspect of fashion, and that would be athletic fashion. Perhaps it isn’t going to garner the most recognition, but when you think about it, what Lululemon Athletica brings to the table is in fact quite practical.
Ladies, how many times have you gone to the gym, and couldn’t be bothered to bring a change of clothes because you’ve got to head a fair bit to get to your class or because your bag’s already jam packed with laptop, lunch, and papers? I can tell you that I’ve fallen in this category a couple times when I lived in Toronto. When I went to the gym, it was quite far from school, and when I did school sports, that was another trek from home. To have pieces that wicked quickly and that looked somewhat presentable (i.e. not those tear-away pants from track practice!) was always ideal.
Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. I call this fashionable athletic wear. So what do I have to prove for it? Well, for one, the store has new products every six weeks as a means of keeping things up-to-date and new. The R&D team does a great job in keeping an eye out for the most fashionable, yet comfortable, fits for jackets to slip on and for patterns that you will be wearing while you run that treadmill down. Keep in mind that the seams don’t chafe and all clothes are pre-shrunk, so you have little to worry about when shopping for yourself or for a friend.
Also notice that the fabric used isn’t what you’d normally find people wearing at the gym. Granted, Lululemon does make use of the traditional fast-drying materials for their apparel aimed towards heavy workouts, but there is catering to the light workout and to the after. In addition to promoting better living, we find that this Canadian brand also strives for eco-friendly options, such as using bamboo, modal, and organic cotton.

Lululemon's Oasis Wrap: You might not think much of this, but hey, when was the last time Under Armor released something semi-fashionable?

About Lululemon Athletica
Started by Chip Wilson back in 1998, Lululemon’s first store was located on Canada’s west coast (Vancouver, to be precise) and quickly spread over to the lovely city of Toronto. Starting with a boutique in the downtown core, Lululemon caught on and can now be found in practically any mall. You think that this would be horrible for a brand, but it’s been fantastic! This athletic clothing brand has not only expanded to sell more of its products, but also into communities. Offering initiative such as Sunday morning yoga, monthly challenges, and notices on fab events, Lululemon takes customer interaction to a whole new level. With a redesigned website, you can find the Lululemon closest to you (locations include Australia, Mexico, Canada, US, and more!). Otherwise, shop online!
And what does that logo represent? Well in the drafting stages, the brand was to be called “Athletically Hip,” and that was the original logo. Liking it so much, Chip Wilson decided to keep it when the name “Lululemon Atheletica” was finalized.
